Mark received his Bachelor of Fine Art from California Institute of the Arts in 1974 and he continues to produce art, illustrations and performance pieces with an edge of surrealism, alchemy and mystical thinking that has been his primary motivation since he first experienced the wonder of magic as a child in the presence of his magician grandfather.
While studying Post Studio Art at Cal Arts, his mentor John Baldessari coached his work and eventually suggested a return to his magical roots, inspiring a full-time career in magic as a performance art. Mark never stopped creating objects and mixed media that reflected these arcane interests. His paintings, collages, and elaborate sculptures using vintage laboratory glassware, metals and mixed media involve science and mysticism, and consist of mysterious mechanical devices and the strange shapes of alchemy laboratories.
